We saw the ad below for a course at the Institute of Cartography and GeoInformation. Very interesting. As mobile explodes, the landscape is changing for geo-techology. It remains confusing and dis-jointed with GIS, LBS, traditional navigation. Its very far sighted for the Institute to offer this type of course. Well worth looking into we think.
Description
Increased mobility has changed the way we collect, access, and use geographic information. This affects many areas of our daily lives, such as travel, communication, consumerism, social behavior, and the environment.
Mobile people face challenging problems in space and time, such as navigating an unfamiliar city or deciding on the fastest public transportation mode to a destination. Mobile GIS and Location-Based Services (LBS) support people in their spatio-temporal decision-making based on information that is tied to their location. In contrast to Desktop GIS, they must solve these decision problems on the spot and account for the restricted resources of the mobile device.
The course introduces students to the theoretical and technological background of mobile geographic information systems and location-based services. In the practical part of the course students will plan, design, and implement a mobile system.
