In part 1 of this series we discussed the high cost and complexity of many of the existing asset management systems. And that thanks to new mobile and cloud computing, lower cost less complex solutions are now available. In this blog we will cover a mobile app WebMapSolutions have been building for a group of small cities in the US.
Map Driven Asset Management for Small Organizations Part 2
GeoAppSmart AM was designed by and for small cities. It satisfies the core asset management requirements of small to medium sized organizations. The web app works directly against ArcGIS, can be used on any device and ties assets (valves, manholes, municipal buildings etc) to work orders.
Work orders are categorized by service request or preventative maintenance:
A table can be opened and closed in the app to show the status of all work orders:
or preventative maintenance tasks:
Select an item in the table and the map will zoom to that feature on the map and show the work order.
When opening the mobile app users see a quick summary of the open issues by type:
The work order tab allows users to view a work order, update as needed and close the work order if completed.
The work order widget itself allows users to view and select specific work orders:
Create new work orders:
Associate work orders with different assets and cluster work orders in the map when zoomed out:
Generate a PDF summary report of selected work orders:
All the data used in the web app: assets, work orders etc is stored in ArcGIS. Any updates such as a change in the status of a work order is pushed directly into ArcGIS.
GeoAppSmart AM is designed to fully automate the work order process: creating, viewing and updating. Changes can be seen in real time by office based staff and managers.
In the final part of this blog post series we will discuss two other key widgets in the GeoAppSmart AM web app: Administration and Reporting, and discuss briefly how easy the app is to adjust to add functionality and customize.
