The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are doing some very interesting work with climate change. The Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) unit are are in the midst of a huge data collection project. After visiting their portal, I realised they were using GeoServer to serve some of their map data.

OpenScales – Displaying United Nations Forest Data
I thought is might be interesting to use OpenScales to display the data. Turning to our OpenScales template and with a little help from firebug I added two of the FRA layers into the viewer.

Unfortunately WFS is not available for these layers, so we are not able to use the identify and search tool. It would be interesting to take this work further and add querying and maybe access to satellite imagery.
