I recently wrote a blog entry comparing Weather Bug and Weather Channel IPad apps. I’ve been thinking for a while, along with many others I am sure, about Flex application design on these new tablet devices.
Tablet Flex Application Design
Some years ago I was working on a very interesting Flex framework. Web based, and designed around a module loader. Very simple. The left pane contained a loader swf. Resembling ITunes, it had a bottom left main menu, this opened a set of top left sub-menus. Select a sub-menu and a Flex module opens in the main pane.
The application was moth balled, which was a shame, since so much work went into it. Bummer the business angle was screwy. But remembering the design, and borrowing some of the images from this application, I set about recreating its functionality. I remembered enough about it to pull at least the guts of the Flex portion together. Link to it here. It struck me this could form the base for a very functional tablet application.
I’ll take this further in due course and see if I can port this to Flash Builder 4 and Burrito, and run a tablet emulator.
