For a while I have been looking for a carbon calculator; draw a polygon on a map and calculate the carbon emissions from the selected area. I finally found one at the World Conservation Monitoring Centre Carbon, biodiversity & ecosystem services Web site

Flex ArcGIS World Conservation Monitoring Centre Carbon Calculator
As I did with the United Nations Forest Resources Assessment map, I thought it would be interesting to regenerate the application using our custom Flex ArcGIS viewer. Using Firebug I found the endpoints for the data and recreated the interactive map.

Included are two overlays. The carbon calculator I integrated into the draw tool, and in this first instance to the ‘add rectangle tool’.

Draw a rectangle on the map. Now right click with the cursor over the drawn polygon. You will see ‘Open Carbon Calculator’.

This is currently still under development. So at the moment no results are returned. There is a Flex security issue I need to resolve before I can make the correct call for the carbon calculation. I’ll update the blog when I have this piece fixed.
