Well what a day in San Diego. The mother of all storms battered the city. Thunder, lightening, and incredible rain. Fantastic.
It was also the the first day of the Esri Business Summit. A pre-conference before the main Esri UC event. Energizing.
Why?
Ok, I love being in San Diego. I love being around my GIS peers. But i really loved being pumped up by new ways to apply GIS. And that was what today was all about. Amazing demos, and fascinating case studies. I loved the talk on the use of ArcGIS in the world of journalism. Big data and GM was super interesting… location to site .. competitive marketing strategy (using ArcGIS). Very cool.
I thought today really brought home the power of the platform.
Why am I excited about the Business Summit day 2?
I’m excited to get more of the picture coloured. Taking us through the journey.
Unlike traditional users of GIS, those who have a history with the technology, small to medium size business users are often new to GIS. As an ArcGIS service partner, education is key to any engagement with our private customers. Stepping them through the path to maximize ROI. This is quite a different proposition. The importance of:
– Planning
– Building a centralized system of record accessible to all
– Configurable apps which run across devices and platforms
– Which use ArcGIS analytics.
These were actually the guiding elements Mike (Johnson) mentioned driving the excellent ArcGS Hurricane Sandy demo.
I wrote about success and failure with private sector engagements with ArcGIS and what we learned. Walking through the journey, the highs and lows, challenges and solutions is so important. We compare, learn and succeed together.
Roll on day 2 ..
