Continuing our reprint of some of the questions and answers from the recent ESRI UC, here we look at trends:
“Platforms – Particularly exciting are the cloud and device platform because they enable “pervasive access,” giving the ability to use GIS, from anywhere and on any device.”
“Location Analytics. This term refers to the exploding interest in integrating maps and simple spatial analysis into business analytics and business intelligence. Esri is very active in this field and now supports direct integration technology for Microsoft and IBM BI platforms (SharePoint, Office, and Cognos). Other platforms (SAP, etc.) are integrated using Esri partners or the business intelligence providers themselves (MicroStrategy, Information Builders, SAS and Tibco Spotfire). While this is not traditional GIS, it represents a major way for our users to spread geography across their organizations.”
Mobile Location Technology Experts
As a company we are mobile focused. We are not trying to be a general GIS shop, but focused mobile location technology experts. So we are concentrating on a single device platform. But have within our midst developers who know systems like SAP. Location analytic’s is an area we may broaden our scope to include. It offers powerful new potential tools to the enterprise.
