I hate being ignored. In conversation ignoring somebody is generally accepted as rude. But no response to an email it would seem is somewhat acceptable.
I’ve heard them all:
“I’m very busy”
“Your email went into my spam folder.”
“I was planning to respond, just hadn’t got to it”.
I’m sorry if I keep having to send you emails, you are being rude. Actually more than that it is a reflection on you. And a bad one.
I know, I know, sometimes we avoid sending replies. Maybe we feel uncomfortable replying (a good way to help people to feel less uncomfortable with replies is to use a line in your email like “i don’t want to be a pest, but I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on my last email?”).
Don’t make me use GIS expletives to get your response
I try always to respond to any email I receive. I feel it is both a reflection on me and on my company. That we are reliable, attentive, people worth working with. More than that its good manners. I’ll tell you yes, no, it was good, it was poor (and here is why), share thoughts and opinions.
Am I busy. Sure.
Do I miss emails. Absolutely (and I apologies profusely if this happens)
But I always respond. And quickly.
Aren’t I special. No actually I am not. Many of us realise that always responding within a reasonable time to an email is both good manners and good business.
So please don’t make me use GIS expletives to get your response.
